Ladder Safety Is No Accident

As any tradesman who works with heights knows, buying a safe and reliable ladder is absolutely vital. Yet, many DIY’ers and home handymen do not understand the importance of having such a tool at home. Many are of the opinion that they will only be using it a handful of times per year so they may as well grab a cheap or discounted ladder.

“A 54yo tradesman was working on a convenience store, building awall near a stairwell leading down to the basement. He stood on the top rung of an 8 foot step ladder to adjust a chalk line and fell.” writes the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. “He landed about 16 feet below, hitting the concrete stairs leading into the building’s basement. He was later carried off the jobsite in a body bag.”

With the current economic climate as it is and cheap overseas merchandise being imported into the country that is of inferior quality, it is time to buy locally made products, especially ladders. Read the 5 “Must Haves” your ladder should have before you buy it.

1. Buy A Name Brand
Go with a name you can trust. The most popular are the best. These have obvioulsy stood the test of time and deserve top billing. Names like Werner and Little Giant come to mind immediately.

2. Ladder Steps or Rungs
Are the ladder rungs of a sufficient width to allow all or nearly all of your foot to sit flat on the rung. Having to put just the ball of your foot on a rung is inviting accidents and compromising your safety.

3. Locking Device
Is the device that locks the two sides of the ladder in place strong and sturdy. Some cheap overseas brands simply have 2 strips of aluminum to do this monumental task. Ensure that the locking device will pass inspection every time.

4. Non Slip Feet
The feet, or legs, of the ladder need to be of a non slip nature. Physically turn the ladder over to inspect the feet to see if the rubber stoppers are of a good quality and not simply there for show.

5. Flared Feet
While this would only apply to extension ladders as opposed to step ladders, if the feet are flared out at the bottom this will give you extra support when using the upper rungs of the ladder.

Visual inspections of ladders should take place every single time you use it. Whether it is to perform some maintenance or simply get a ball off the roof, you must ensure the ladder is rock solid. Your family’s future depends on it.

Best 6 ft Ladder For Home Use

I have had many emails from home owners wanting to know my choice of best 6 foot step ladder for home use. These guys simply want a ladder to use around the house for those jobs that seem to pop up once in a while. They don’t want or need all the bells and whistles that come with some ladders. Just a basic six foot ladder to get the job done.

This is just me but if I want a ladder solely for home use only I would go for a fiberglass model. While they are heavier than a aluminum ladder, they provide a lot more stability than the lightweight aluminum and it isn’t like you will be carrying the ladder from location to location. Go for a fiberglass ladder.

Of the fiberglass ladders available on the market today I whittled it down to two that stood out from the crowd. There is the Werner 5906S model and the Louisville FS 1506 so lets compare the two to see which is the best 6 ft ladder for home use.

Best 6 ft Ladder For Home Use

I have chosen the Louisville ladder over the Werner ladder as the best 6ft ladder for home use for two reasons.

1. It has a higher load rating.
Whilst there is not much difference in load rating between the two it is always best to have a higer rating in the event that one job comes along that requires you to utilize that higher load rating.

2. Price. With the Louisville considerably cheaper than the Werner, it was a no brainer really. Check official prices here in case of recent fluctuations.

Both ladders meet the safety standards set by the American National Standards Institute and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration which gives you peace of mind if giving a ladder for home use to a friend or relative as a gift.

I reckon for a 6ft fiberglass ladder with a load rating of 300lbs for under $100, you can’t go wrong.

On a yearly basis, around fifty construction personnel are killed by accidents on ladders. Over fifty percent of the fatalities happen to those operating from ladders. Two times as many accidents happen going down in comparison to going up ladders. The primary reason behind falls from upright as well as extension ladders is moving of the ladder base. For self supported ladders or stepladders, the principle cause is sliding side to side. Lots of employees hauling step ladders injure their backs, as well.

Safeguard Yourself

• Select the right apparatus. Use ladders primarily for climbing up to or from other levels. When you can – rather than making use of ladders to help you – make use of scaffolds or even scissor lifts; they’re far better to operate from.
• Select the right ladder size.
• A label on a industrial ladder lets you know it’s optimum weight capability. Only use type I, IA, or IAA step ladders, which can support two hundred and fifty, three hundred, and 375 lbs, respectively. Osha states job-made transportable ladders has to be analyzed for strength; an everyday ladder has to be capable of holding a minimum of four times its maximum weight limit.
• Ladder steps, cleats, as well as steps should be parallel, level, and consistently spread out (10-14 inches wide for the majority of ladders). The steps and rungs of metallic ladders have to be grooved or roughened to reduce sliding. Side-rails should be at least 11.5 ins apart.
• Don’t tie up ladders together.
• If you work with 2 or more ladders to get to one spot, they need to have a platform or landing between the two.
• Ladder components should be smooth to avoid holes or slashes or snagging of garments.
• Timber ladders should not be painted using a finish that may disguise flaws.
• Workers need to be competent in ladder use. A reliable man or woman should educate workers in site-specific ladder safety.

Setting up a Ladder

• Make use of two individuals to carry as well as set up a ladder, whenever possible.
• Keep all kinds of ladders (and tools) a minimum of 10 ft from live over head utility lines and other over head obstructions. Aluminum as well as moist or soiled timber or fiberglass ladders may conduct electrical current.
• Set the ladder on firm, level surface. Make use of ladder levelers on sloping terrain. Secure the ladder – tie it down, make use of slip-resistant feet, or have somebody support it in position. (A ladder on a slick surface area must be set up or held.)
• Keep your area surrounding the top and bottom part of a ladder clear. In passageways, entrance doors, or where traffic or any other pursuits can happen, secure the ladder or obstruct access to the area.
• Don’t set a ladder on scaffolding, common box, and other item.
• Stepladders: All four legs have to be on sound, level surface. The spreaders should be secured completely open. Never ever climb on the cross-bracing. By no means lean a stepladder towards a wall.
• Straight and extension ladders: The ladder foundation ought to be one ft from the construction (or highest support, for example an eave) for every four ft of ladder length up to the resting placement. Keeping track of steps will provide you with a great estimate of the ladder length; steps are about one foot apart.
• After you set up an extension ladder, lock the top section in place. Extension ladder sections must overlap – by at least 3 feet for ladders up to 32 feet, by 4 feet for ladders 32 feet to 48 feet, and by 5 feet for ladders
48 feet to 60 feet.
• Both rails must rest evenly on the resting spot, unless the ladder has a single-support attachment.
• When a ladder is used to get on or off a roof, secure the ladder by tying. The side rails should be at least 3 feet above the roof to be safe. Job-made ladders should let you get on or off a ladder by stepping between
the rails. If you have to step around a ladder because of rungs, there should be a grab rail attached to the building to help you. (OSHA requires the grab rail and tie-off if a ladder doesn’t extend at least 3 feet above the roof.) If there is a high parapet wall, use a stairway or some other way to get on or off the parapet.

Using a Ladder

• Always check a ladder before you use it; recheck it if it has been unattended.
• Always face a ladder when using it.
• Wear shoes with slip-resistant soles.
• Always have a 3-point contact (such as, one hand and two feet).
• Keep your body centered between the side rails of the ladder – so you don’t tip over the ladder.
• Never work from the top or top step of a stepladder, or from any of the top 3 steps of a straight or extension ladder.
• If you must work from an extension ladder, consider using a fall protection system attached to a secure anchor point on the building, especially if pushing, pulling, or prying. (The fall protection should be designed by
a qualified person.) And keep both feet on the same rung.
• Do not hold objects in your hand when moving up or down or stepping on/off a ladder to an upper level. Attach objects to your tool belt or pull them up on a line after you get to your work spot.
• Do not use a ladder when it is windy.
• Never move a ladder while someone is on it.
• Lower the top section of an extension ladder before you move it.

Inspecting a Ladder

OSHA says a ladder must be inspected regularly for visible defects by a competent person and after any incident that could affect its safe use. Check your ladder for damage before each use. If a ladder is damaged, label it, Do not use, and take it away until it is fixed. Destroy it if it can’t be fixed.

Here is a checklist for inspecting ladders:

• Make sure the feet work and are not broken – and slip-resistant pads on the feet are secure.
• Inspect ladder parts for cracks, bends, splits, or corrosion.
• Check all rung and step connections.
• Make sure rung locks and spreader braces are working.
• On extension ladders, make sure the rope and pulley work and the rope is not frayed.
• All bolts and rivets should be secure.
• All rung locks and other movable parts should be oiled or greased.
• Make sure the steps, rungs and other ladder parts are free of oil, grease, and other materials.

Selecting and purchasing a ladder is not as easy as you would think. There are many variables that come into play when choosing a ladder whether it be for home use, for the office or for work. Safety should be the first consideration when selecting any ladder so it is vital to select only those ladders made by reputable manufacturers such as Werner, Little Giant, Cosco etc. These brands of ladders have stood the test of time and passed stringent safety standards.

Other important points to consider are the type of material the ladder is made from whether it be timber, aluminum or fiberglass and lastly the height restrictions of the ladder is paramount. Ensuring you have the ladder that will reach the height you need safely is vital.

There has been a tremendous technological advancement in the last few decades and these innovations have helped in making people’s lives a whole lot easier and simpler. One such example is the telestep ladder.

The Functions of the Telesteps Ladder

This ladder is no different from a telescope as it has legs that expand and collapse. This is the exact same mechanism that a telescope uses as it extends and retracts allowing for height adjustment. This type of ladder can also be easily stored.

As if this wasn’t enough, Telesteps has taken this concept to a whole new level. Just like a telescope, the side rails of Telesteps ladders are made with tubular aluminum. These can automatically lock in 1-foot increments. This is like purchasing multiple sizes in just a single small package.

Telesteps is being hailed as a ladder in a box. This ladder combines transportability and durability. The Telesteps Model 1600W has come up with a rate of 300 pounds but it weighs only 27 pounds. It converts from a 30-inch length to about 12.5 feet when the ladder is fully extended.

There are many models and sizes that a buyer can choose from and each is given a 12-month warranty.

The Advantages of Telesteps Ladder

•	It can be easily stored in any small space. The very fact that it can retract to a compact size means that you would never have any storage issues. People often store their ladders outdoors and this leads to the tool being exposed to the roughest elements.

•	It is lightweight so you won’t have to worry about getting back pains. Remember that DIY tasks are supposed to be enjoyable, not a type of burden that you have to go through.

•	It is portable so you can carry it around with you no matter where you go. Just retract it inside the trunk of your vehicle and you’re good to go! There really isn’t any need for a separate ladder at home or at the office anymore. Now, you can just transport the ladder with you and you can use it anywhere you want.

•	Telesteps ladders are safe to use. Since you’ll be using this to reach high areas, you are guaranteed of a safe climb as these ladders are made of the sturdiest materials. A standard telesteps ladder can easily support up to 300 pounds of weight.

Your money will definitely not be wasted when you purchase a Telesteps ladder. Consider it as an investment that will be used by many generations.

When you look at it, each home and office should have at least one step ladder. This equipment is required when you need to reach for heights that are impossible to reach with your bare height. It becomes doubly useful when you need to change a busted light bulb or when you need to reach a coffee mug that has been stored way, way up in a cupboard.

Your Choice of Extension Ladder

There are a lot of choices for extension ladders in the market nowadays. These can be utilized indoors or outdoors and they can be easily stored through simple folding.

Are you in need of additional space? A lot of people could always use an extra room in their homes and if you have an attic, then you might as well make the most out of this spare room. It is wrong to think that attics are just there for storage purposes. With the right touch, this room could be turned into the nicest guest room or recreation room.

Having a folding attic ladder should be your next agenda if it is your purpose to turn that little extra room into a functional space. Folding attic ladders can be pulled down and then folded back up each time that the homeowner chooses to.

Generally, the materials used in making a folding attic ladder are wood, metal or fiberglass. Just like there are various materials in which these ladders are made, there are also different styles that people can opt for.

The Different Kinds of Folding Attic Ladders

•	The regular folding style

•	Sliding styles of attic ladders

Installation Requirements

A folding attic ladder can be installed in no time at all. In fact, if you have a day to spare, you can easily finish the task. What you just need are a few basic equipments and a little help from someone who could do some heavy lifting.

You can choose to have a professional installer do it for you or you can choose the cheaper alternative which is to purchase a do it yourself kit. Here are some of the basic materials and tools that you would need in installing an attic ladder:

•	Step ladder

•	Flashlight

•	Hammer

•	Dust mask

•	Goggles

•	Drywall saw

•	Hand saw

•	Framing square

•	Tape measure

•	Attic stairs

•	3 inch wood screws or 16p nails

•	20p nails

•	1inch by 4inches boards

•	Wood shims

•	Joist-size framing lumber

It is important to strictly follow manufacturers’ instructions when it comes to building your very own folding attic ladder. They are the ones who best know the needed safety precautions during construction.

Always remember the kind of roof framing in your home. Choose the stairs with the right weight rating for your specific situation, and never conclude that the attic floor in your home is sturdy prior to actually checking it.

Functionality and style – these should be the two features that will characterize your creation. Always remember these things and you will be able to build one of the best folding attic ladders there is.

Nothing can save space in your garage more than a folding aluminum ladder. There may be many other ways to clean up cluttered areas in your garage but nothing can be neater or more organized than to store large tools or equipment in smaller spaces.

You could be in the process of building your very own garage or you just realized one day that your garage is actually a mound of many unused things and so it’s time to clean it up. Or perhaps you noticed how your ladder already ate up a major part of your storage shed. Ladders are often the most difficult tools to store as they need to be propped awkwardly against the garage wall.

An aluminum folding ladder saves much more space for you since all you have to do is to collapse it and it’s ready to store!

Aluminum Folding Ladder Uses

There could be instances when you need to redecorate or redesign your home and there are two options for you to have this work done. You could either hire a professional to do the task or you can just do it yourself.

Repainting jobs often require that you reach up to higher areas such as the ceiling. Doing this job yourself not only saves you money but if you do it right, you can also have fun. One of the most indispensable tools that you could utilize is an aluminum folding ladder.

This kind of ladder has many uses. It can be categorized as a multi-purpose ladder as it can be utilized for many different kinds of work. This is great to use when you need to clean things in your home. Rather than prop a conventional ladder, all you have to do is to unfold the folding ladder and it can stand on its own.

And what if you need to clean up the shelves of books in a library or if you need to repair the tree house on your lawn, what tool should you use then? It would be best to use the folding ladder as it can be carried anytime and anywhere so you can transfer it from one work area to the next.

Safety and Durability

One of the major concerns when it comes to doing tasks at home is safety. A folding ladder optimizes security and safety as it is stable and the chances of someone falling off of it are very minimal.

There are many options in the market but it would be a good choice to use an aluminum folding ladder since it is lightweight. You also don’t have to worry about rust eating up your ladder since it was made to withstand the toughest elements.

Your folding ladder will be your aid in doing heavy duty work so make sure that you choose it wisely.

The telescoping attic ladder is one of the most up to date and recent design when it comes to attic access. This type of ladder doesn’t occupy much space and it is the most ideal kind of attic ladder for smaller homes. There are also certain designs that come with hand or grab rails that would ensure safety.

The Advantages of Telescoping Attic Ladders

Telescopic attic ladders have a lot of advantages and they also come in different models. These ladders are normally made of metal and are constructed in a tubular form. The side rails often collapse as you put the structure back up.

There are some companies that create designs where a 14-foot ladder can shrink to about 33 inches only. This specific make of telescoping attic ladder has side rails which are made of jointed scissor segments. These then fold together and make the ladder ideal for storage. This is ideal for small openings on ceilings.

Choosing Your Attic Ladder

Attic ladders can be chosen for their frequency of usage and durability. The best ladder should be one that is sturdy and easy to maintain. Make sure to take a careful look at the thickness of the steps. This should be thicker than 3-4 inches for firmer toe hold. It is great to have a model that has metal rods beneath the treads.

Thickness is a major aspect that you should pay attention to. Heavier hardware will be able to sustain weight without much maintenance. Carefully read the warranty of the product prior to purchasing it.

Maneuverability is also an aspect that you need to look into. A telescoping attic ladder is easy to handle when compared with traditional ladders. Imagine having to prop the conventional ladder against the attic opening each time that you need to go up to that place. This can get perilous and a debilitating accident can result from this.

There are many popular materials that are used in manufacturing telescoping ladders. The traditional wooden attic ladder is still quite popular. Aluminum, fiberglass and steel are the durable and sturdy choices for your attic ladder. For those with limited storage spaces, the telescoping attic ladder is the best choice to make.

Safety Tips on the Use of 32 Foot Extension Ladders

The 32 extension ladder is one of the most used equipment by tradesmen and technicians. Because it is highly popular, there are also a lot of accidents and injuries that are being associated with this type of ladder. Each year, more and more accidents are being reported with regard to the use of extension ladders. The good news is these accidents can be prevented.

Extension Ladder Uses

An extension ladder is a very practical and efficient tool. There is nothing better than a 32 extension ladder and other kinds of extension ladders when it comes to reaching for the highest areas.

Though there are other options or other tools that can be used, the use of cherry picker cranes or scaffold towers is much more expensive when compared to the use of a 32 foot extension ladder. Also, scaffold towers and cherry picker cranes are a lot harder to erect.

When to Use an Extension Ladder

Not every task requires an extension ladder. When you need to work at lower heights, a step ladder is what you need. Roof ladders can also be utilized to work down at a certain height, too, so make sure to assess the jobs that you are going to work on prior to purchasing your extension ladder.

Obviously, 32 foot extension ladders are for tasks that require climbing high areas. You can use this to bring down a cat that has been stuck i a tree; or you may want to use this when you need to clean the rain gutters.

Here are some safety tips on using your 32 foot extension ladder:

•	Inspect the ladder for any cracks, bends or buckling prior to your purchase. Pay attention to the rungs and feet. The area that you would use the 32 extension ladder on should also be properly inspected. Make sure that this area is even.

•	In erecting the ladder, make sure that you do not extend beyond the necessary height. Check that you have a good angle from the wall so that you will not suffer from a needless accident.

•	Ask someone to foot the 32 foot extension ladder as much as possible. Slipping or toppling is a common ladder accident so it is better to be safe than sorry.

•	Put your tools around your waist or on a tool belt as you climb the ladder. Work calmly because any violent or sudden movements could result into an accident.

With so many ladders to choose from, it sometimes gets difficult to pick out the right folding extension ladder to use in your home. This type of ladder is vital for people who own homes or businesses. There may be a need for you to climb up to repair the roof or to check seals around the windows in your home. Cleaning up the gutter would also require that you use a ladder that would allow you to reach the highest points on your roof.

Choosing the Best Folding Extension Ladder

There are various things to consider when it comes to choosing your folding extension ladder. You need to seriously consider these factors because this ladder will support and protect you.

There are ladders out there other than the extendable style. The folding extension ladder is one of the best choices that you could make because it saves up space as compared to the conventional type of extension ladder.

Deciding to Purchase the Correct Folding Extension Ladder

Always think of your needs when it comes to choosing your extension ladder. Here are a few tips that can help you in purchasing the right one:

•	If you’re planning to paint the ceiling, you may want to add accessories for your extension ladder. This could be something to hold the tools in place as you do the task or it can be scaffolding which would allow you to walk back and forth as you reach out to the ceiling.

•	Try to inspect the material that has been used to manufacture the ladder. Those that can be found in the market are often made of fiberglass or aluminum. The main difference between the two is their strength and weight. If you’re a little bit on the heavy side, then the aluminum type may not be the best option for you.

•	The great news is there are various ladder manufacturers who offer the latest designs in extension folding ladders. Take the time to read reviews on some models and find out if these would be able to provide what you’re looking for.

•	No matter how durable the manufacturer claims a folding extension ladder to be, you still need to test the said ladder prior to your actual purchase. See how much weight it is able to bear. Have a sales rep do the demo for you and find out whether the extension ladder that you are about to pick out is sturdy enough to carry you and the tools that you’re going to use.

The most convenient ladders in the market nowadays are folding ladders, specifically, the Werner folding ladder. This ladder is versatile hence it can be utilized for a variety of functions. This can be used for many purposes such as:

•	Home painting or repainting jobs

•	Organizing bookshelves or simply cleaning the top of shelves in your home

•	Hanging up Christmas lights

•	Dusting hard to reach areas

•	Getting up to the attic

The great convenience in using a Werner folding ladder is that you don’t even need a stable surface in order to prop this tool. The ladder can easily stand alone and this will also give you an assurance that there are fewer risks on injuries.

This extra stability also offers the homeowner peace of mind as he can just concentrate on the job now rather than on balancing himself on the ladder. This is a type of ladder that you can literally use anywhere and for many different functions.

Advantages of a Werner Folding Ladder

This type of ladder can be easily transported anywhere. Just fold it up and then you can carry it around your home or even to your office. This ladder can also fit into your car making it one of the most portable ladders in the market today.

Sturdiness and reliability are also two characteristics that make up Werner folding ladders. These are the perfect tools to use on any DIY or professional tasks. They are made of heavy duty aluminum (the same material that is used on aircrafts) so you’re assured of the highest level of durability and weight-sustaining capability.

There are also those that come in the traditional wooden material if you want to achieve a classic look for your home. Folding ladders made by Werner are also known to come with lifetime warranties. That is the greatest assurance that you’re buying no less than quality product.

If you can look for these additional features, then you would be having no less than the best kind of ladder:

•	Anti-slip platform (lowers the risk of accidents and injuries)

•	15mm thick platform

•	Non-slip ridged rungs (these are installed on ladders to ensure maximum safety)

Werner ladders are known to exceed the standards set for ladder making. Now that you know, if you’re pressed for space or you’re just working on a limited budget, what you need to shop for is a Werner folding ladder – no less.

The Benefits of Using a Folding Step Ladder

Step ladders are one of the most useful tools for homeowners and expert tradesmen. This kind of tool can be easily transported when placed at the back of any car or van. Electricians, builders, plumbers, press photographers and even tree surgeons attest to the usefulness of a folding step ladder.

Why Use a Folding Step Ladder?

•	Compared with regular ladders, step ladders are compact, hence, they’re easy to transport around. You can also easily store a folding step ladder underneath the stairs, inside a small cabinet, or even on the smallest sheds.

•	One other great advantage of a step ladder is that you don’t need to lean against the wall in order to use it. This tool can be erected at any place so you can easily work on painting the ceiling right in the middle of the room or even when you’re against the wall.

Since you don’t need to lean against the wall to use a folding step ladder, accidents are less likely to happen as these ladders are less precarious when compared with the regular ones.

•	A step ladder has a top shelf that you can use to place an equipment or a set of tools. This is extremely advantageous since you can use both hands in working with the task.

•	A step ladder also has a locking device which ensures that the ladder won’t fold up when you’re still at your task. When opened fully, a step ladder is the safest equipment that you can climb on.

•	Safety wise, the unique V shape of the folding step ladder makes it a sturdy tool to use. It’s a bit impossible to tip off this kind of ladder just as long as the surface that you placed it on is even.

Among the various kinds of ladders, electricians, painters and decorators choose to rely on a step ladder. There is the distinct safety feature where the workman doesn’t have to balance himself and his tools while climbing up or going down the ladder. If you need to work for extended periods of time at an elevated place, using a step ladder is a great option.

If you purchase the correct kind of step ladder, say, one that is made of fiberglass, you can also be certain that you will not experience any kind of electric shock. Couple the sturdiness of a step ladder with the safety of fiberglass and you will be able to finish your home repairs with zero accidents.

One of the most vital tools that a homeowner could have is a ladder. Whether you’re a mom who needs to take care of household chores or a husband who is out to make major repairs on the roof, a ladder is pretty important.

A 20 extension ladder and many other types of ladders enable you to have access to areas and spaces that you normally can’t reach. These kinds of ladders can be easily pulled up or extended and they can also be easily stored. You can comfortably work even in the highest heights as an extension ladder can hold your weight including the weight of the tools that you’re going to bring with you.

Choosing Your Ladder

When choosing the length of the ladder that you’re going to use, select a length that is higher than the highest point that you need to reach. In the case of a 20 foot extension ladder, you definitely cannot use this at 20 feet high.

A 20 foot extension ladder isn’t going to measure up to 20 feet because some sections need to overlap in order to give extra strength to the ladder when it is fully extended. So if you need to climb up to 20 feet, your 20 extension ladder just wouldn’t work.

The Importance of Your 20 Foot Extension Ladder

Extension ladders are ideal for work outdoors such as tasks on buildings, trees, rooftops, and other long-reaching areas. You can use your extension ladder to clean the gutters, make tree houses, paint walls, wash windows and many more.

A 20 extension ladder is good for different heights so you can also use it to bring down a stuck kite from a low tree. Just adjust the height of the ladder and – voila – you can already use it!

Here are just a few safety tips in using your 20 extension ladder:

•	As suggested by manufacturers, make sure to use the ladder at a safe angle. Never – ever – stand at the highest standing safety level.

•	Never overreach, make sure that your torso doesn’t go beyond the sides of the ladder.

•	Always face the ladder when you move up or down.

•	Wear the safest footwear. It has to be a pair of shoes that come with non-slip soles.

•	Ask someone to foot the ladder while you’re up doing something. No matter how durable or safe the ladder is, you still need to make the necessary safety precautions so that you can keep accidents at bay.

Remember these tips and you can work safely and conveniently with your 20 foot extension ladder.

A telescopic loft ladder is a great and compact choice when you want to get up to a loft. Traditional loft ladders need to be folded and stored while their telescopic counterparts can be hidden away up in the ceiling.

Using a Loft Ladder

A telescopic loft ladder is a ladder that can save you lots of space on your loft area as it can easily fit into a very tiny hatch opening. This type of ladder can even be utilized by the most inexperienced person. All that you have to do is to open the loft’s hatch, let down the holder of the ladder, release the catch, and then pull the loft ladder down.

Majority of telescopic ladders are made of aluminum so they are better able to support weight over time. This ladder can serve as a modern addition to your home and it can even add to the total worth of your home if in case you finally decide to sell it.

People with area limitations should be the first ones to consider installing loft ladders. They’re easy to install and they can give you access to an area that would otherwise be hard to go to.

Shopping for a Telescopic Loft Ladder

•	Just like any home improvement jobs, be sure to have the exact measurements prior to buying the loft ladder. Carefully measure the width and length of the loft’s opening. Don’t forget to measure the distance from the floor to the loft’s opening.

•	The product dimensions will determine the total amount that you’re going to pay. So don’t get tired of shopping around for the right loft ladder for your home. The precise measurements will be able to give you an approximate amount of what you’re going to pay, and as you realize this, you should also know the exact budget that you will be working on.

•	The best deals are often found on the web so go online and start shopping there. You will have no trouble finding the best telescopic loft ladder on the Internet. There is also a wide assortment of loft ladders that would suit your needs so find the one that has the most sensible price. Read this telescoping ladder review to learn more.

•	Remember the weight limitations when shopping around for your ladder. If there is going to be a great deal of heavy boxes that will be carried up to the loft, then you have to make sure that the loft ladder you make will be able to accommodate the weight no matter how heavy it is.

If you’re not careful, you could risk damaging your home or even injuring persons in the household. In determining weight limitations, make sure to add the weight of the heaviest item that you’re going to carry on top of your body weight.

In order for you to do a task safely, there is a need to purchase the correct size of extension ladder. And in order to get the right size of extension ladder for the tasks that you are about to do, there is a need to look for a ladder that is taller than the highest point that you are aiming to reach.

Here are a few tips on how you can purchase the correct kind of 28 extension ladder:

•	When buying a 28 foot extension ladder, be sure to make allowance for the overlapping extensions. When the ladder is extended, you have to understand that there are a few sections that would overlap so the actual length of your ladder shouldn’t be equal to the height that you need to reach. Purchasing a 28 extension ladder is best when you need to do a task at around 20 feet or so.

•	Safety is also a feature that you should carefully look into. Make sure that the materials used on the ladder are durable and are able to withstand the elements. For instance, if you are going to leave your 28 extension ladder outside of your home, make sure to cover it so that the rain or sun won’t damage it in the long run.

Steel ladders can easily rust while fiberglass ladders won’t. Over time, wood ladders have a high chance of deterioration especially if exposed to the elements often. So, is fiberglass a wise choice? This is probably the best option that you can make!

•	A 28 extension ladder is meant to carry only one user at a time. Don’t think that purchasing a heavy duty extension ladder can automatically allow you to climb up with another person!

•	Pulley systems and ropes are also incorporated into a 28 foot extension ladder so make sure that you check these features as well. These are meant to help the user adjust the height of the ladder. They’re meant to engage the rung locks properly so check the materials that have been used. Make sure that the pulley rope is tracking properly.

•	Read all the reviews that you can find online. These reviews will give you the advantages of certain brands over other brands. Reading testimonials will also be a great way to gauge the customers’ feedbacks regarding certain brands of 28 foot extension ladders. Take the time to read and you won’t go wrong.

Do Louisville Ladders Stack Up?

Louisville Ladder is a popular American manufacturer of various ladders. This company is named Louisville because it was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in the year 1946. There are three trusted names in the ladder industry which merged in order to bring to your home the best Louisville fiberglass ladder and many other kinds of ladders.

Louisville Ladder was the first company to produce the Louisville fiberglass ladder. While other companies were busy manufacturing aluminum ladders by the bulk, Louisville Ladder has come up with the innovative idea of producing fiberglass ladders that would soon eat up the competition.

The Advantages of Using Louisville Fiberglass Ladder

Ladders, in the past, were often made of wood, steel or aluminum. Some manufacturers have even come up with heavy duty plastic as a cheaper yet sturdy choice. Every type has its own advantages and disadvantages but there’s one material that has gained popularity and acceptance in many industries – the fiberglass ladder.

Have you ever experienced working near power lines, only to be jolted of electric shock as you begin your task? With a fiberglass ladder you will not experience this. You need not worry about getting electrocuted because you stuck your steel ladder accidentally on an electrical line.

A fiberglass ladder is a non-conductor of electricity and though there are some models that come with aluminum rungs, still these are properly insulated and are separated from the entire body of the ladder.

Fiberglass ladders are man-made and so they are artificially created. They have a lot of advantage when compared with wooden ladders since you don’t have to take down any trees just to create usable equipment.

Fiberglass ladders are trusted even by professional firemen as it can’t catch fire. Taking all these features into consideration, you’ll be able to deduce that fiberglass ladders are inherently safer than any kind of ladder.

Aluminum vs. Fiberglass

An aluminum ladder may match fiberglass ladders when it comes to ladder strength but aluminum is often manufactured in different grades and so there is the issue of non-uniformity when it comes to the grade of aluminum used. Different manufacturers offer different grades of aluminum ladders and there’s the danger that cheaper grade aluminum could buckle under the heaviest loads.

You don’t have to worry about rust or any kind of damage when you use a Louisville fiberglass ladder. This can be used indoors or outdoors and no weather condition can weaken this kind of ladder. Fiberglass also doesn’t absorb moisture so you shouldn’t worry that it would weaken when exposed to torrential rains.

Are you still looking for the perfect ladder to use in your home? Nothing can beat a Louisville fiberglass ladder when it comes to producing your perfect ladder so it’s time to purchase one now!

In various homes, the attic is often the best place to store boxes of heirlooms or seasonal items such as Christmas trinkets. This area is often dark and stuffy this is why it isn’t visited frequently by homeowners.

It may be a low traffic area but it is still important to access if need be. This is especially true if you have to store something very valuable, and so this is when an attic access ladder comes in handy.

An attic access ladder is the most ideal way to take things to the attic and store them there. Some people may choose the traditional ladder in order to gain access to this often high area in their homes but this can get a bit awkward. A traditional ladder is difficult to maneuver when the loft needs to be opened. Attic access ladders make a huge difference when it comes to this scenario.

Installing the Access Ladder
The chief reason why a lot of homeowners don’t buy access ladders for the attic is because they don’t even know how to install it. If you order a do it yourself kit, though, you will see that it only takes two people to install the entire thing.

You could also purchase a dismantled package from any department store and within a few hours, you should be able to finish the structure and finally get to enjoy the luxury of getting up, effortlessly, to your attic.

One other reason why homeowners don’t purchase an attic access ladder is that they don’t think that they’re going to go to that area often enough. They think that simply propping a traditional ladder would do since they don’t go up there often, anyway.

The thing is, a person who uses the regular ladder may easily topple over and become injured. Attic access ladders were created to prevent just this. This kind of ladder can be easily attached to the attic opening and then the owner will have an easy access to that space.
